Poker DVD Reviews

Reading a book is great, but in the age of DVDs, it is so nice to be able to see what the experts are telling you.  While the number of poker DVDs do not rival the number of poker books just yet, the number grows each month, so we've provided you a short list of the few we think merit your consideration.

Keep in mind that the information you find on any of these DVDs will not be much different than what you find in the books we've listed in the Recommended Reads section.  In many cases, it is actually less information.  It comes down to your own preference as to whether you prefer to watch or to read.  Enjoy!!

More Secrets of No-Limit Hold 'em by Howard Lederer - Lederer is called "The Professor" and for good reason.  He has a very good teaching style and he appears comfortable on camera.  The first DVD in this series is extremely basic and I much prefer this volume with more advanced strategies (not really secrets).  He does build on information he provides in the first DVD, so if you are just starting out you will want to view that one first.  In this DVD, Lederer discusses more tactics such as slowplaying, value betting and bluffing into scare cards.  An odds chart is also included.  Good information for the common man or woman!

Masters of Poker 2-pack by Phil Hellmuth - This DVD set is actually a combo of Hellmuth's earlier releases, The Million Dollar Poker System and Million Dollar Secrets to Bluffing and Tells.  Both of these are fine DVD and Hellmuth has no problem in front of the camera.  The information is very similar to the what is in the Lederer DVDs, so choose which pro you like better.  As stated earlier, any of these DVDs will not have the depth that you will find in the books that Poker, Inc. recommends, but if your learning style is better suited to watching TV than reading a book, Hellmuth's DVDs will set you on your way!

Poker Secrets from Poker Champs - One of the nicest features of this DVD is the length.  You get 2-1/2 hours of poker discussion with the pros.  There is not a great deal of hard-core strategy on the DVD.  Many of the famous names appear on the DVD, but their discussions center more on the poker life (which is cool) and not on what to do on the flop, turn and river.  This DVD is more entertaining than informative.

World Poker Tour, Season 1 - Fifteen hours of well-produced TV poker action fits into this boxed set.  This is a must have gift for any poker enthusiast.  Watching all of the shows without commercial interruption is nice and if you have started playing poker in the last 1-2 years, you will be able to watch these first season episodes with a much better understanding of the action than when they first aired in 2003.  You have the chance to obtain this box set for free by clicking the ad at the bottom of the page or clicking here.  Why wouldn't you want to play some poker in order to get this nice gift as an added bonus!!

Rounders starring Matt Damon and Ed Norton -  This movie, along with the WPT in television, are the big reasons that new players have flocked to play Texas Hold 'Em.  The movie is extremely accurate in its poker jargon and tension.  The final head-to-head showdown between Matt Damon's character and Teddy KGB (John Malkovich) is classic.  If you enjoy playing poker and have never seen this movie, do yourself a favor and rent it for your next stay-at-home movie night.  You will not be sorry!
